Maksajatilin

Maksajatilin is a Finnish term used in financial contexts to refer to the bank account from which a payment is made. It is a generic concept rather than a specific product, and etymologically combines maksaa (“to pay”) with tili (“account”). In practice, maksajatilin denotes the source account used by the payer in payment orders, invoices, and bookkeeping.

In transactions, funds are debited from the maksajatilin and transferred to the recipient’s account (often referred to as the maksunsaajan tili). The term helps distinguish the payer’s account from the recipient’s account in financial records, payment instructions, and reconciliation processes. It is particularly relevant for individuals and organizations that maintain multiple accounts or use various payment methods.

Usage and management of maksajatilin are typically governed by banking practices, company cash-management policies, and internal controls. In invoicing and enterprise resource planning systems, maksajatilin may be recorded as payer information to support cash flow planning, audit trails, and accurate reconciliation of payments against invoices.

In cross-border or multi-currency payments, payer account information is often required alongside recipient details to ensure correct routing and settlement. While the term is common in Finnish financial language, the underlying concept is widely understood in similar forms as “payer’s account” or “source account” in other languages and systems.
