Makromesotason is a theoretical concept used in materials science and complex systems to describe the bidirectional coupling between macroscopic structure and mesoscopic dynamics within a single material or system. The term blends macro- (large-scale) and meso- (intermediate-scale) with a suffix that signals a mediating state or process across scales. In this view, macroscopic constraints such as applied load, boundary conditions, or external fields influence mesoscale organization—such as domain formation, phase separation, or network connectivity—and those mesoscale features, in turn, alter bulk properties like stiffness, strength, diffusion, and thermal conductivity.

Modeling makromesotason involves multiscale approaches that couple representations at different length and time scales. Techniques include hierarchical homogenization, phase-field simulations linked to continuum mechanics, and coupled finite element methods that exchange information between macro-, meso-, and sometimes micro-scale models. Experimental studies typically employ in-situ imaging, mechanical testing, and diffusion measurements to observe how macroscopic actions drive mesoscale rearrangements and how those rearrangements feed back into overall material performance.

Applications of the concept span polymer gels, fiber-reinforced composites, metamaterials, and energy storage materials, where performance depends on the interplay between bulk constraints and intermediate-scale structure. It provides a framework for understanding how large-scale loading or shaping processes can engineer desirable mesoscale architectures and, conversely, how mesoscale dynamics can be exploited to tailor bulk properties.
