Magveszteség

Magveszteség, a Hungarian term, translates to "seed loss" or "grain loss" in English. It refers to the reduction in the quantity of seeds or grain from their potential harvestable amount. This loss can occur at various stages of the agricultural process, from the field to storage.

In the field, magveszteség can be caused by several factors. Environmental conditions play a significant role, with excessive rainfall leading to lodging, making harvesting difficult and increasing spillage. Drought can result in premature ripening or reduced seed set, diminishing the overall yield. Post-harvest, magveszteség can continue. Inadequate storage facilities can lead to spoilage from moisture, mold, or insect infestation. Poor handling during transportation can also result in spillage and physical damage.
