Maatopisteet refer to a set of geographical points designated to mark the border between two countries. In the context of Finland, matatopisteet are easily recognizable as high metal pillars equipped with a flag on top, standing with a distance of five to thirty kilometers apart along the border with Russia. Their exact locations are announced publicly, allowing people to easily mark where they are entering or exiting the country.
