MFS

MFS is an acronym that can refer to several terms in different fields. In biochemistry and microbiology, MFS most commonly denotes the Major Facilitator Superfamily, a large and diverse group of membrane transport proteins that mediate the uptake and efflux of a wide range of substrates. Members typically share a conserved 12- to 14-transmembrane-helix architecture and operate via alternating access mechanisms. The superfamily includes transporters for sugars, drugs, ions, and other metabolites, and has been a focus of research due to its roles in metabolism, drug resistance, and physiology.

In finance, MFS most often refers to Massachusetts Financial Services Company, the sponsor of MFS Investment

Other uses of the acronym exist in various domains but are less common. Context is usually required
