Lämpötilakontaktien, commonly known in English as temperature contacts or thermal switches, are electromechanical devices designed to detect and respond to specific temperature thresholds. They operate by utilizing materials that undergo a physical change at a predetermined temperature, which in turn activates or deactivates an electrical circuit. This simple yet effective mechanism makes them invaluable components in a wide range of applications where temperature monitoring and control are essential.

The most prevalent type of lämpötilakontakti is the bimetallic strip. This strip consists of two dissimilar metals with different coefficients of thermal expansion bonded together. When heated, one metal expands more than the other, causing the strip to bend. This bending motion can be used to open or close electrical contacts. Another common design is the snap-action thermostat, which uses a dished bimetallic disc that snaps from one position to another at a specific temperature, providing a quick and decisive switching action.
