Lämpökäsittelymuotoja refer to various processes involving controlled heating and cooling of materials, primarily metals, to alter their physical and mechanical properties. These treatments are fundamental in metallurgy for improving strength, hardness, toughness, ductility, and wear resistance.

Annealing is a common heat treatment that involves heating the material to a specific temperature, holding it there for a period, and then cooling it slowly. This process softens the material, relieves internal stresses, and refines its grain structure, making it more ductile and easier to work with.

Hardening, often achieved through quenching, involves heating the material to a critical temperature and then rapidly cooling it in a medium like water, oil, or air. This process increases hardness and strength but can also make the material brittle.

Tempering is typically performed after hardening. The hardened material is reheated to a lower temperature than that used for hardening and then cooled. This reduces brittleness, increases toughness, and adjusts the hardness to a desired level.

Normalizing is similar to annealing but involves cooling in still air. It refines the grain structure and homogenizes the material, producing a more uniform structure than annealing.

Case hardening methods, such as carburizing or nitriding, are used to create a hard, wear-resistant surface while maintaining a tough core. These processes involve diffusing elements like carbon or nitrogen into the surface of the metal.

Selection of the appropriate heat treatment method depends on the material's composition and the desired final properties for its intended application.
