In everyday use, lämpöhauteen can refer to a domestic bath as well as to baths used for therapeutic or spa purposes.

In practical terms, a lämpöhauteen is typically prepared in a bathtub or a hydrotherapy tub, with water temperature commonly maintained in the range of about 36–40°C for general relaxation. In therapeutic settings, higher temperatures—often around 38–42°C—may be used under professional guidance. Immersion times vary but are generally shorter for hotter baths, with longer stays common for more moderate temperatures. Proper hygiene, water quality, and temperature control are essential to prevent irritation or burns.

Lämpöhauteen is employed for relaxation, muscle relief, and circulatory benefits.
