Pulsators are used to regulate the vacuum, mimicking the natural suckling action of a calf and preventing tissue damage. Milk lines transport the milk from the milking clusters to a collection or storage tank.

More sophisticated milking systems incorporate features like automatic detachers, which disengage the cluster once milk flow ceases, preventing over-milking. Electronic identification systems can track individual animal performance and health data. Robotic milking systems, also known as automatic milking systems (AMS), represent the pinnacle of automation, allowing cows to be milked on demand without human intervention. These systems use sensors and advanced programming to identify, guide, and milk each cow.

The design and maintenance of milking systems are crucial for animal welfare, milk quality, and herd health. Proper hygiene protocols, regular cleaning, and calibration of equipment are vital to prevent mastitis and ensure the production of high-quality milk for human consumption. The choice of milking system depends on factors such as herd size, farm infrastructure, labor availability, and economic considerations.
