Lymankontinuiteten
Lymankontinuiteten, also known as lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM), is a rare genetic disorder characterized by the growth of smooth muscle tumors in the lungs. These tumors, called lymphangioleiomyomas (LAMs), can cause significant respiratory symptoms and complications. LAM is primarily a disease of women, with a prevalence of about 1 in 2,000 to 1 in 3,000 women. The exact cause of LAM is not fully understood, but it is believed to be related to genetic mutations, particularly in the TSC1 and TSC2 genes, which are involved in regulating cell growth and proliferation.
The symptoms of LAM can vary widely and may include shortness of breath, coughing, wheezing, and chest
There is currently no cure for LAM, but treatment options are available to manage symptoms and slow
LAM is a complex and challenging condition, but ongoing research aims to better understand its underlying mechanisms
