Luototuses are a fictional term used in speculative fiction and online folklore to describe a genus of small, bioluminescent, semi-aquatic organisms believed to inhabit tidal pools around a fictional archipelago named Luoto.

The name fuses the Finnish luoto meaning “islet” with a Latin-style suffix -tuses, a coinage attributed to online communities in the early 2010s.

In fictional accounts, luototuses range from 10 to 30 centimeters in length, with a soft, gelatinous body and multiple ribbon-like appendages. They glow faintly, producing coordinated light patterns for communication and predator deterrence.

They are said to inhabit shallow lagoons, tide pools, and submerged caves around the archipelago. Diet consists of microalgae, detritus, and microscopic zooplankton. They are described as gregarious but cryptic, often observed only as sparkling silhouettes in moonlight.

Behavior emphasizes nocturnal activity and collective luminescence; some narratives describe seasonal influxes and synchronized displays. Reproduction details vary across stories, but are commonly depicted as external fertilization in plankton-rich waters.
