Luomuruoat

Luomuruoat, also known as "stone rows" or "stone alignments," are a type of prehistoric monument found in Finland and other parts of Northern Europe. These structures consist of rows of large stones, typically arranged in a straight line or a circle. The purpose of luomuruoat remains a subject of debate among archaeologists, with theories ranging from astronomical alignments to ceremonial or ritual sites.

The construction of luomuruoat dates back to the Neolithic period, around 4000-2000 BCE. The stones used in these structures are often large, flat, and well-polished, with some weighing several tons. They are typically made of local bedrock, such as granite or gneiss. The most famous luomuruoat in Finland is the Kivikylä stone circle in Savonlinna, which consists of 12 large stones arranged in a circular pattern.

The exact methods used to transport and erect these massive stones are not fully understood, but it is believed that they were likely moved using sledges or rollers. The alignments of luomuruoat often correspond to significant astronomical events, such as solstices and equinoxes, suggesting that they may have been used for astronomical observations or rituals.
