Lukkoprosessorien, also known as coprocessors, are specialized microprocessors designed to assist the main central processing unit (CPU) in performing specific tasks more efficiently. They are commonly used in various computing applications, including graphics processing, scientific computing, and embedded systems. Coprocessors can offload certain workloads from the CPU, thereby improving overall system performance and energy efficiency.

One of the most well-known types of coprocessors is the Graphics Processing Unit (GPU), which is designed to handle complex graphical computations. GPUs are widely used in gaming, video rendering, and scientific simulations. Another example is the Digital Signal Processor (DSP), which is used in audio processing, telecommunications, and image processing. DSPs are optimized for performing mathematical operations on digital signals.

Coprocessors can be integrated into the same chip as the CPU, known as a System on Chip (SoC), or they can be separate chips that communicate with the CPU through a bus or other interconnect. The use of coprocessors has become increasingly important in modern computing, as the demand for high-performance computing continues to grow.
