Lowboxing

Lowboxing is a term used to describe a specific style of graffiti where the artist intentionally makes their tags or pieces appear lower than normal on a wall. This can be achieved through various methods, such as crouching, kneeling, or even lying down, to position their hand and spray can closer to the ground. The effect can make the graffiti seem to emerge from the base of the wall or appear more integrated with the urban landscape.

The practice is not about achieving a higher visibility, but rather about an aesthetic choice or a deliberate challenge. Some lowboxers might do it to avoid detection, as it can be a less conspicuous position to occupy for extended periods. Others might see it as a way to add a unique visual element to their work, creating a sense of depth or grounding.
