Data sources include enterprise resource planning systems (ERP), warehouse management systems (WMS), transport management systems (TMS), as well as EDI, barcodes, RFID, GPS trackers, and IoT sensors.

Logistikkdata is used for planning and optimization (inventory control, capacity planning, route optimization), execution (tracking, proof of delivery), and analytics (demand forecasting, performance measurement). It often resides in data warehouses or data lakes and is integrated via data governance, master data management, and interoperability standards such as GS1, EDI, and API-based interfaces.

Key challenges include data quality, timeliness, fragmentation across systems, and privacy and security, including GDPR considerations. Effective use requires data governance, data quality processes, and clear definitions of data ownership and access. Modern organizations leverage predictive and prescriptive analytics to improve resilience and efficiency.
