Lobelioideae

The fused anthers can act as a "brush," depositing pollen onto visiting pollinators. Seed dispersal mechanisms also vary, with some species producing small, dust-like seeds adapted for wind dispersal, while others have larger seeds dispersed by animals.

Economically, some species of Lobelioideae have traditional medicinal uses, particularly in their native regions. For example, certain species are used as expectorants or for treating respiratory ailments. However, some members of the subfamily are known for their toxicity, containing alkaloids that can have potent physiological effects.
