Livscykluser, often translated as life cycles, refers to the series of changes that a living organism undergoes from its beginning as a new individual until its death and reproduction. This concept applies to all forms of life, from single-celled organisms to complex multicellular beings.

For many organisms, the life cycle begins with reproduction, which can be asexual or sexual. Asexual reproduction produces offspring genetically identical to the parent, while sexual reproduction involves the combination of genetic material from two parents. This is followed by a reproductive stage where the organism is capable of producing its own offspring, thus continuing the cycle. Finally, all organisms eventually enter a senescent stage, characterized by aging and a decline in physiological function, leading to death.
