In botanical contexts, it refers to a secondary or adventitious root that grows from a stem or leaf, rather than from the primary root system. These roots are common in many plant species and serve various functions, including anchoring the plant more firmly, absorbing water and nutrients from the soil surface, or aiding in vegetative propagation.
