Lisanduvastin

Lisanduvastin is a medication used to treat hypercholesterolemia, a condition characterized by elevated levels of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol in the blood. It belongs to the class of drugs known as PCSK9 inhibitors, which work by reducing the production of LDL cholesterol in the liver. This helps to lower the overall cholesterol levels in the blood, thereby reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases.

Lisanduvastin was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2022 for the treatment of adults with familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) who are at high risk of cardiovascular events. It is also indicated for the treatment of adults with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HeFH) who are at high risk of cardiovascular events.

The medication is administered orally, typically once daily. It is generally well-tolerated, with the most common side effects including headache, diarrhea, and muscle pain. Serious side effects are rare but can include muscle injury and increased risk of infections.

Lisanduvastin is not recommended for patients with a history of muscle injury or those who are at high risk of developing muscle injury. It should be used with caution in patients with a history of kidney disease or those who are elderly.
