Lisävarmennus

Lisävarmennus, often translated as "additional verification" or "secondary authentication," refers to a security process that requires users to provide more than one piece of evidence to prove their identity. This is a crucial component of modern cybersecurity, designed to prevent unauthorized access even if one authentication factor is compromised.

The most common form of lisävarmennus is two-factor authentication (2FA). In 2FA, a user typically provides something they know (like a password) and something they have (like a one-time code sent to their phone or generated by an authenticator app). Other factors can include something they are, such as a fingerprint or facial scan.

Lisävarmennus is implemented in various contexts, including online banking, email accounts, and secure corporate networks. Its primary benefit is significantly enhancing security by making it much harder for attackers to gain access. Even if a password is stolen, the attacker would still need the second authentication factor to log in.
