Lisääntymisavusteet, commonly known as assisted reproductive technologies (ART), refer to a range of medical procedures used to help individuals or couples achieve pregnancy. These technologies assist in overcoming various forms of infertility, including problems with ovulation, sperm production, or blockages in the reproductive tract.

The most widely known ART procedure is in vitro fertilization (IVF). In IVF, eggs are retrieved from the ovaries and fertilized with sperm in a laboratory setting. The resulting embryo(s) are then transferred to the uterus. Other ART methods include intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), where a single sperm is injected directly into an egg, and gamete intrafallopian transfer (GIFT) and zygote intrafallopian transfer (ZIFT), which involve placing eggs and sperm or fertilized eggs into the fallopian tube.

ART can be a complex and emotionally taxing process, often involving multiple treatment cycles. Success rates vary depending on factors such as age, the cause of infertility, and the specific ART method used. Medical professionals carefully evaluate candidates for ART to determine the most appropriate treatment plan and manage expectations. These technologies have enabled many individuals who might otherwise have been unable to conceive to have children.
