Linnulla

Linnulla is a genus of fungi in the family Tricholomataceae. The genus was described in 1935 by Swedish mycologist Elias Melvill. Linnulla species are typically found in temperate regions, often growing on decaying wood. The mushrooms are generally small to medium-sized with a cap that can be convex or flattened, and a stem that is often slender and fibrous. The gills are typically adnexed or decurrent.

One of the more well-known species is Linnulla borealis, which is found in boreal forests. This species has a distinctive greyish-brown cap and white gills. Another species, Linnulla flocculosa, is characterized by its small, clustered fruiting bodies and hairy stem. Research into the ecological roles of Linnulla species is ongoing, with some studies suggesting they play a part in nutrient cycling within forest ecosystems. Identification of Linnulla species can be challenging, as they share characteristics with other genera in the Tricholomataceae family. Microscopic features are often important for definitive classification.
