Lineagenäkymän

Lineagenäkymä, often translated as lineage view or ancestry view, is a visual representation used in genealogical research and family tree software to display the direct ancestral lines of an individual. It typically focuses on the path from a person's parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, and so forth, extending backward through generations. This perspective contrasts with a full family tree, which also shows siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins, and descendants.

The primary purpose of a lineage view is to simplify the presentation of a person's direct ancestry. It helps researchers identify key ancestors, trace specific lines of descent, and organize information efficiently. By highlighting only the direct ancestors, it can reduce visual clutter, making it easier to follow a particular bloodline.

Lineage views are commonly found in digital genealogy platforms and software. Users can often select a specific individual and then choose to view their lineage. The display might be presented as a descending chart where the starting individual is at the top and ancestors are shown below, or as an ascending chart with the individual at the bottom and ancestors branching upwards. The depth of the lineage view can typically be adjusted by the user, allowing them to explore more or fewer generations. This tool is particularly useful for documenting specific ancestral lines, preparing for DNA testing analysis, or creating focused reports on particular branches of a family.
