Limnephilid

Limnephilid refers to a family of caddisflies, insects in the order Trichoptera. These aquatic insects are commonly known as northern cased caddisflies. The family Limnephilidae is one of the largest families of caddisflies, with numerous genera and species found worldwide, particularly in temperate regions.

The larvae of limnephilids are distinctive for constructing protective cases. These cases are typically made from natural materials found in their environment, such as twigs, leaves, small stones, and snail shells, which they bind together with silk secreted from salivary glands.
