Likhetssökningar, often translated as similarity searches or similarity queries, refers to the process of finding items in a dataset that are similar to a given query item. This is a fundamental concept in many areas of computer science and data analysis, including information retrieval, recommendation systems, image and audio recognition, and natural language processing.

The core idea behind likhetssökningar is to define a measure of similarity or distance between data points. This measure is typically based on a feature representation of the items. For example, in image recognition, items might be represented by vectors of pixel values or extracted features like color histograms.
