Liiklusohte

Liiklusohte is a Finnish term used in traffic planning and engineering to describe discrete elements within a road network that influence traffic behavior. The concept covers both concrete, physical features and logical, rule-based elements that affect how vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists move through an area. In practice, liiklusohte are used as identifiable units in planning, modeling, and evaluation of transport systems.

Classifications of liiklusohte can be broad. Physical objects include intersections, pedestrian crossings, roundabouts, road signs, traffic signals, speed bumps, lane markings, and the boundaries of different road types. Logical or virtual objects refer to traffic rules or zones that are not tied to a single physical structure, such as speed limits for a street, bus priority corridors, temporary construction zones, or area-based restrictions. Objects can be represented as points, lines, or polygons in geographic information systems (GIS) and carry attributes like type, geometry, operational hours, and priority.

Data collection and modeling rely on documenting liiklusohte with consistent attributes to support simulations, safety analyses, and capacity planning. Field surveys, traffic counts, and remote sensing commonly feed into gis datasets that model interactions between objects and traffic flow. Applications include optimizing signal timing, evaluating road safety improvements, planning new developments, and assessing the impacts of closures or construction work.
