Leverantörsselektion, often translated as supplier selection, is a crucial process in procurement and supply chain management. It involves identifying, evaluating, and choosing the most suitable suppliers for an organization's needs. The goal is to secure reliable sources of goods or services that meet quality, cost, delivery, and other performance requirements.

The process typically begins with defining the specific needs of the organization, including the required products or services, quantities, and timelines. Following this, a comprehensive search is conducted to identify potential suppliers. This can involve market research, industry directories, trade shows, and recommendations.

Once a list of potential suppliers is compiled, a rigorous evaluation phase commences. This involves assessing various factors, such as the supplier's financial stability, production capacity, quality control systems, technical capabilities, experience, and reputation. Key performance indicators (KPIs) are often used to objectively compare suppliers.

The evaluation may involve requesting proposals (RFPs) or quotations (RFQs) from shortlisted suppliers. Negotiations with potential suppliers are also a common part of this stage.

Finally, based on the comprehensive evaluation and negotiations, a supplier is selected.
