Lethos is a fictional city-state in the realm of Valoria, commonly described as a major maritime and commercial center on the southern coast.

The name Lethos is derived from the ancient local language, with possible roots in 'Leth' meaning shadow, and the suffix '-os' common in regional toponyms. It sits on the delta of the Nereus River, with a natural harbor enclosed by basalt piers and limestone quays. The surrounding terrain includes low hills and terraced orchards.

Historically, Lethos grew from a cluster of merchant settlements established in the 8th or 9th century. It prospered as a trading hub linking inland kingdoms to coastal routes, and later formed a stable oligarchic republic.

Governance and economy: Lethos is governed by the Council of Nine, elected magistrates who rotate oversight of finance, defense, and trade. The city maintains a policy of relatively free trade tempered by harbor dues and quality controls. The port handles textiles, glassware, dyes, and timber products.
