Lemuren
Lemuren are a diverse group of strepsirrhine primates native to Madagascar and nearby islands. In German, Lemuren is the plural form of Lemur and is used to refer to all species collectively. They range in size from the tiny gray mouse lemur, about 30 grams, to the larger diademed sifaka, up to around 9 kilograms. Distinctive features include a moist, rhinarium-like nose, a tooth comb, and, in many species, a grooming claw. Most lemurs are arboreal and rely on a combination of leaping, climbing, and slow, deliberate movement.
Lemurs belong to the suborder Strepsirrhini and diversified on Madagascar after its isolation from the Indian
Lemurs display diverse diets, including fruit, leaves, nectar, and insects. Some species are nocturnal, others diurnal
Conservation status is a major concern: habitat loss, fragmentation, hunting, and climate change threaten many species.
