Laufwerkskäfige

Laufwerkskäfige, also known as drive cages or HDD cages, are components found within computer cases that provide a secure mounting point for storage devices such as hard disk drives (HDDs) and solid-state drives (SSDs). These cages are typically made of metal, often steel, and are designed to hold one or more drives. They serve a crucial function in organizing internal components and ensuring proper airflow within the computer.

There are various types of Laufwerkskäfige. Some are fixed and integrated into the computer case's chassis, requiring the user to screw drives directly into designated bays. Others are modular and can be removed or rearranged to accommodate different drive configurations or to improve accessibility during system building or upgrades. Hot-swap cages allow drives to be inserted or removed while the computer is running, a feature commonly found in servers and high-end workstations.

The primary purpose of a Laufwerkskäfig is to provide physical stability for the drives, preventing vibrations and movement that could potentially damage the delicate components or cause data corruption. They also contribute to cable management by offering a structured place to install drives, which can simplify the routing of power and data cables. Proper spacing within the cage, or ventilation holes in its design, can also aid in the cooling of the drives by allowing air to circulate around them.
