Glass ionomer restorations are often chosen for primary teeth, as well as for non-load-bearing restorations in adults, such as those on the root surfaces of teeth. They are also frequently used as a base material under other restorative materials like composite resins. The setting time and physical properties can vary depending on the specific product. While generally considered safe and effective, like all dental materials, they can have limitations and are subject to wear over time.
