Landstingsstyrelse

The *Landstingsstyrelse* was the administrative body responsible for managing the affairs of the Faroe Islands' parliament, the *Løgting*, during the period from 1948 to 2005. Established as part of the Faroese self-governance reforms following World War II, it served as the executive branch, overseeing governance, legislation, and public administration under the direction of the *Løgting*.

The *Landstingsstyrelse* was led by a *Landsstýri* (Cabinet), consisting of a prime minister (*Landsstýrisformaður*) and other ministers appointed by the *Løgting*. Its primary functions included implementing laws, managing public finances, coordinating with government departments, and representing the Faroe Islands in international matters where relevant. The body operated under the authority of the *Løgting*, which elected its members and could hold it accountable through votes of no confidence.

Over time, the *Landstingsstyrelse* evolved alongside Faroese self-governance, transitioning into the modern *Landsstýri* (Government of the Faroe Islands) in 2005.
