Laavivirta

Laavivirta is a Finnish term that translates to "lava flow" or "lava stream." It specifically refers to the molten rock that erupts from a volcano and flows across the Earth's surface. These flows are a direct manifestation of volcanic activity, originating from magma chambers deep within the Earth and emerging through vents or fissures.

The appearance and behavior of a lava flow depend on several factors, primarily the chemical composition and temperature of the lava. Lavas with a high silica content tend to be more viscous and cooler, resulting in slower-moving, thicker flows that can build up steep-sided features. Conversely, lavas with a lower silica content are generally hotter and more fluid, leading to faster-moving, thinner flows that can travel considerable distances.

When lava flows, it can dramatically reshape the landscape. It can bury existing structures, create new landforms such as lava fields and cones, and alter drainage patterns. The cooling and solidification of lava create igneous rocks.
