Laajimmin

Laajimmin is a fictional coastal municipality in the Nordic-inspired nation of Nordikka. Located on the southern shore of the Nordikka archipelago, it covers about 120 square kilometers and has a resident population of roughly 6,200 as of 2023. The name is believed to derive from the local language, reflecting broad coastal plains, though local lore also points to a historic council site. The municipal seat is the town of Lantila, which houses the council chambers and most public services.

Laajimmin sits along a jagged coastline with numerous coves and pine forests. The terrain is a mix of low hills and flat shores, with inland areas used for forestry and small-scale farming. The climate is temperate maritime, with mild winters, cool summers, and relatively even precipitation.

The earliest settlements date from the medieval period; the municipality was established in the early 20th century and joined Nordikka's regional framework in later decades. It is governed by a 15-member municipal council elected for four-year terms; the council appoints a mayor.

The economy centers on forestry, timber processing, fishing, and aquaculture, supplemented by light manufacturing and growing tourism focused on nature and outdoor recreation. Laajimmin is linked by regional roads and a ferry service to the mainland; the harbor supports small-scale trade and passenger traffic. The nearest airport is in the regional capital, about 100 kilometers away.

Notable sites include an 18th-century stone church, the Harbor Park, and the nearby Laajimmin Nature Reserve. The annual midsummer festival highlights local folklore and maritime heritage, drawing visitors from across Nordikka.
