Laadimistsükliks refers to a charge cycle, a fundamental concept in the operation of rechargeable batteries. It denotes the complete process of discharging a battery from a fully charged state to a specified minimum voltage and then recharging it back to its full capacity. Each time a battery undergoes such a cycle, its capacity gradually diminishes. The number of charge cycles a battery can withstand before its performance degrades significantly is known as its cycle life.

Different battery chemistries exhibit varying cycle lives. For example, lithium-ion batteries, commonly found in smartphones and laptops, typically offer hundreds to thousands of charge cycles. Lead-acid batteries, used in vehicles, generally have a lower cycle life. The rate of discharge and charge, the depth of discharge (how fully the battery is depleted), and operating temperature all influence how many cycles a battery can endure.

Understanding charge cycles is crucial for battery management and predicting a battery's lifespan. Manufacturers often specify the expected cycle life of their batteries under specific conditions. Prolonging battery life generally involves avoiding deep discharges, not leaving batteries fully charged or fully depleted for extended periods, and operating them within their recommended temperature range. The concept of "deep cycle" batteries, often used in applications requiring frequent and significant discharges like RVs or solar power storage, highlights the importance of designing batteries for specific cycling demands.
