Køteorimodeller, or queueing theory models, are mathematical tools used to analyze and predict the behavior of systems where entities (customers, tasks, data packets, etc.) arrive and wait in a queue for service. These models help understand performance metrics such as waiting times, queue lengths, resource utilization, and throughput.

The fundamental components of a queueing model include arrival process, service process, number of servers, queue discipline, and system capacity. The arrival process describes how entities enter the system, often modeled using distributions like Poisson. The service process defines how long it takes to serve an entity, commonly represented by exponential or deterministic distributions. The number of servers indicates how many entities can be served simultaneously. Queue discipline, such as First-Come, First-Served (FCFS) or Last-Come, First-Served (LCFS), dictates the order in which entities are selected for service. System capacity refers to the maximum number of entities that can be in the system, including those waiting and being served.

Several standard queueing models exist, often denoted using Kendall's notation (A/S/c/K/N/D). For example, M/M/1 represents a system with Poisson arrivals, exponential service times, one server, infinite capacity, infinite population, and FCFS discipline. More complex models can incorporate multiple servers, finite capacity, different arrival or service distributions, and various queue disciplines.

Applications of queueing theory are widespread, spanning telecommunications, computer networks, manufacturing, traffic management, healthcare, and customer service. By applying these models, organizations can optimize resource allocation, design efficient systems, and improve customer satisfaction by reducing waiting times and increasing service efficiency. The insights gained from queueing models are crucial for decision-making in operations management and system design.
