Középfelépítés

Középfelépítés is a Hungarian term that translates to "middle construction" or "mid-build" and primarily refers to a specific type of fortified dwelling or manor house found in Hungary, particularly during the medieval and early modern periods. These structures were typically built on a smaller scale than grand castles but were more substantial and defensible than a simple peasant house. They often served as the residence for lesser nobility, wealthy landowners, or local administrators.

The characteristic features of a középfelépítés include thick stone walls, often with a single tower or a few strategically placed turrets for defense. They usually possessed a courtyard, and internal spaces were designed for both living and some degree of protection. While not designed for large-scale sieges, they offered a reasonable defense against raids and local conflicts. Many középfelépítések were later expanded or modified, sometimes evolving into more comfortable Renaissance or Baroque manor houses (kastély). The term emphasizes their intermediate position in terms of size, defense, and intended purpose between a fully fortified castle and an open manor house. They represent a significant architectural and historical stage in the development of Hungarian residential and defensive structures.
