Articulation disorders involve difficulties in producing speech sounds correctly. This might mean substituting one sound for another, omitting sounds, or distorting them. For instance, a child might say "wabbit" instead of "rabbit."

Fluency disorders, such as stuttering or cluttering, affect the flow of speech. Stuttering is characterized by repetitions of sounds, syllables, or words, or by prolongations of sounds and blocks of speech. Cluttering involves rapid and irregular speech, often with omitted sounds or syllables and a lack of clarity.

Voice disorders relate to the quality, pitch, or loudness of the voice. This can include hoarseness, breathiness, or a voice that is too high or too low. Vocal nodules, polyps, or paralysis of the vocal cords are common causes.

Language disorders, also known as aphasia when acquired later in life, involve difficulties with understanding or expressing language. This can affect a person's ability to find words, form sentences, comprehend spoken or written language, or engage in conversation.
