Käyttötapausmalleja, or use case templates, are standardized formats used to describe system requirements from an end-user's perspective. A typical use case template includes several key sections. The use case name clearly identifies the user's objective. A brief description summarizes the purpose of the use case. Actors represent the individuals or other systems that interact with the system. The preconditions state the conditions that must be true before the use case can begin. The main success scenario, often called the basic flow or happy path, outlines the step-by-step interaction when everything proceeds as expected.

In addition to the main success scenario, templates usually include alternative flows and exception flows. Alternative flows describe valid variations of the main scenario, while exception flows detail what happens when errors occur or unexpected events take place. Postconditions describe the state of the system after the use case has successfully completed.

Using use case templates facilitates clear communication among stakeholders, including developers, testers, and clients. They help in identifying potential issues early in the development process and serve as a valuable reference throughout the project lifecycle.
