Kyynärlukko

Kyynärlukko, also known as an armbar, is a joint lock submission technique in various grappling martial arts such as Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Judo, and mixed martial arts. The primary goal of a kyynärlukko is to hyperextend the opponent's elbow joint, causing pain and potentially injury if not released.

The technique typically involves isolating the opponent's arm. The attacker will usually attempt to control the opponent's wrist and shoulder. By posturing up and applying pressure downwards with their hips, while simultaneously pulling the opponent's arm upwards, the attacker creates leverage to hyperextend the elbow. This can be applied from various positions, including from the guard, mount, or side control.

To defend against a kyynärlukko, an opponent must try to avoid having their arm fully isolated, protect their elbow by keeping it bent, or bridge and relieve pressure to escape. Releasing the submission by tapping out is the safest way to avoid injury. The kyynärlukko is a fundamental technique in many grappling disciplines and requires a good understanding of leverage and control to execute effectively and safely.
