Kytkentäelektroniikka, often translated as switching electronics or power electronics, is a field of electrical engineering that deals with the use of semiconductor devices, such as transistors and diodes, to control and convert electrical power. Its primary function is to efficiently switch electrical power on and off at high speeds, enabling the transformation of electrical energy from one form to another. This process is crucial for a wide range of applications where efficient power management is required.

The core principle of kytkentäelektroniikka involves the rapid switching of electrical currents. By modulating the on and off states of semiconductor switches, engineers can regulate voltage and current levels. This allows for the conversion of AC power to DC power (rectification), DC power to AC power (inversion), and also the modification of DC voltage levels (DC-DC conversion).
