Kvartsittitti

Kvartsittitti, also known as the "quartz thrush," is a small passerine bird species native to the highlands of Ethiopia and Eritrea. It is a resident breeder in montane forests and scrublands, typically found between 1,800 and 3,000 meters above sea level. The bird is approximately 15 centimeters in length and has a distinctive appearance, with a grayish-brown upper body, a white throat, and a black cap with a white stripe. Its song is a series of clear, musical notes, often described as a "tweet."

Kvartsittitti feeds on insects and small fruits, foraging on the forest floor or in low vegetation. It is a territorial species, with males often singing from prominent perches to defend their territory. The bird's breeding season is from April to June, during which it builds a cup-shaped nest in a tree or shrub. The female lays two to three white eggs, which she incubates for about 14 days. Both parents care for the young, which leave the nest after about 14 days.

Kvartsittitti is currently listed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List, with a stable population trend. However, habitat loss due to agriculture and human development poses a potential threat to the species. Conservation efforts focus on protecting and restoring its montane forest habitat.
