KupferIVerbindungen, also known as copper(IV) compounds, represent a class of chemical substances in which copper exists in the +4 oxidation state. This oxidation state is relatively rare and highly oxidizing, meaning copper(IV) compounds are potent electron acceptors and strong oxidizing agents. The electronic configuration of copper(IV) is [Ar] 3d7. Due to its high positive charge and incomplete d-shell, copper(IV) species are generally unstable and tend to readily accept electrons to return to lower oxidation states, typically copper(II) or copper(III).
The existence and characterization of copper(IV) compounds have primarily been established through spectroscopic and electrochemical methods,
