Kuivahöyrykäsittely, known in English as dry steam treatment, is a pest control method that utilizes the heat from dry steam to kill insects and their eggs. This process is particularly effective against wood-boring insects and other pests that infest wooden structures. The steam is generated at high temperatures, typically above 100 degrees Celsius, and applied directly to the infested areas. The intense heat penetrates the wood, reaching and killing pests within their galleries and egg masses.

The application of dry steam involves specialized equipment that can generate and deliver the steam effectively while minimizing moisture penetration into the material. Unlike wet steam, dry steam contains a lower moisture content, which is crucial for treating wood. Excessive moisture can lead to further damage to wooden structures, such as warping or rot. This method is considered environmentally friendly as it does not involve the use of chemical pesticides.
