Kravuppställningen

Kravuppställningen, the Swedish term for "requirements specification," is a documentation process used primarily in software development, system engineering, and business projects to capture, organize and validate what a system or product must achieve. It defines the functional and non‑functional objectives that stakeholders expect, and serves as a contract between developers and customers.

The purpose of a kravuppställning is to ensure clarity, reduce misunderstandings, and provide a baseline for design, implementation, testing and maintenance. Without a complete and accurate list of requirements, project teams can fall into scope creep, inefficient design cycles, or costly rework.

Key components typically include a clear statement of goals, prioritized lists of functional requirements such as user actions and system behaviors, non‑functional requirements covering performance, security, usability and regulatory compliance, constraints and assumptions, and acceptance criteria that will be used for verification. Many organisations adopt a hierarchical structure that groups related requirements into modules or use‑case diagrams to aid traceability.

Methods for creating a kravuppställning range from workshops and interviews with stakeholders to formal elicitation techniques such as MoSCoW prioritization, use‑case modelling and prototyping. Templates based on international standards like ISO/IEC 42010, IEEE 830, or Scrum’s product backlog are commonly employed in Sweden.

During the project life cycle, the kravuppställning is revisited in each sprint or release cycle for updates, and it is signed off by key stakeholders before design proceeds. Effective kravuppställning not only reduces risk but also provides a measure of accountability, as later audits can map delivered functionality back to the originally documented requirement.
