Kraftsteuerung

Kraftsteuerung, also known as power steering, is a system used in vehicles to assist the driver in steering the vehicle. It reduces the effort required to turn the steering wheel, making the vehicle easier to maneuver, especially at low speeds and in tight spaces. The system typically consists of a hydraulic pump, a power steering pump, a power steering motor, and a control valve.

The power steering pump is driven by the engine's timing belt or a separate belt, and it supplies hydraulic fluid to the power steering system. The power steering motor, which is usually an electric motor, provides additional hydraulic pressure when the driver turns the steering wheel. The control valve regulates the flow of hydraulic fluid to the steering rack or gear, which then turns the wheels.

There are two main types of power steering systems: hydraulic and electric. Hydraulic power steering systems use a hydraulic pump and a power steering motor to provide assistance. Electric power steering systems, on the other hand, use an electric motor to provide assistance. Electric power steering systems are generally more efficient and environmentally friendly than hydraulic systems, as they do not require a hydraulic pump or a power steering motor.

Kraftsteuerung was first introduced in the 1950s and has since become a standard feature in most modern vehicles. It has significantly improved the safety and convenience of driving, making it easier for drivers to maneuver their vehicles in various conditions.
