Kostuttajat, or "moisture absorbers," are materials designed to regulate humidity levels in enclosed spaces by absorbing excess moisture from the air. These products are commonly used in homes, offices, and storage areas to prevent issues such as mold growth, musty odors, and damage to paper-based materials like books, documents, and photographs.

The most widely recognized form of kostuttajat is silica gel, a granular, desiccant material that effectively absorbs moisture. Silica gel is often found in small packets included with new products to protect them during shipping. Other moisture absorbers include calcium chloride, clay-based desiccants, and activated charcoal, each with varying levels of effectiveness and applications.

Kostuttajat are particularly useful in environments with high humidity, such as basements, attics, and coastal regions. They can also be employed in archival storage to preserve historical documents and artifacts. While these materials are generally safe to use, some, like calcium chloride, may require careful handling due to their corrosive properties.
