Kostumet

Kostumet is a Swedish black metal band that emerged in the early 2000s. Formed in 2002 in Gothenburg, the group initially consisted of vocalist and guitarist Erik “Kryp” Lundqvist and drummer Anders “Skal” Bergman. From the outset the band distinguished itself by blending atmospheric textures with the raw aggression typical of the black metal genre, a style that drew comparisons to contemporaries such as Dissection and Marduk.

The band released its debut studio album, *Somnus Mysterium*, in 2004 on the independent label Morbid Records. The album was noted for its cinematic soundscapes and complex compositional structure, which earned Kostumet a spot on a number of year‑end best‑of lists within the metal community. Subsequent releases, including *Nocturne* (2007) and *Nightfall Vortex* (2010), continued to build on the sonic foundation established by the debut, integrating keyboards and programming to create an immersive, almost ritualistic atmosphere. The band’s lyrical themes revolve around mythic folklore, nocturnal imagery, and existential contemplation.

Kostumet gained a wider audience through extensive touring across Europe, sharing stages with bands such as Amorphis, Dark Tranquillity, and Even Death. Between 2011 and 2013, the group participated in several metal festivals, including the Inferno, Phonk, and Hellfest, which helped expand its fan base. In 2014 the band announced a hiatus to focus on their respective personal projects. Although sporadic activity has continued, including the release of a limited edition split EP with the underground label Nuclear Blast in 2016, Kostumet remains a cult favorite within the niche of atmospheric black metal.
