Korróziógátlás

Korróziógátlás is the Hungarian term for corrosion inhibition. It refers to the process of reducing the rate at which a material, typically a metal, corrodes. Corrosion is a natural electrochemical process where a metal deteriorates due to reactions with its environment. Inhibition aims to slow down or prevent this degradation.

There are several methods of corrosion inhibition. One common approach involves using inhibitors, which are chemical substances added to the corrosive environment. These inhibitors can form a protective layer on the metal surface, blocking the electrochemical reactions that cause corrosion. The type of inhibitor used depends on the specific metal and the corrosive environment. For example, in acidic solutions, organic inhibitors are often employed, while in neutral or alkaline solutions, inorganic inhibitors might be more effective.

Another method is cathodic protection, where the metal to be protected is made the cathode of an electrochemical cell. This can be achieved by connecting it to a more easily corroded "sacrificial" anode, or by impressing an external electrical current. This forces the desired electrochemical reaction to occur at the sacrificial anode or through the impressed current, rather than on the protected metal.

Surface treatments also play a crucial role in corrosion inhibition. This includes applying protective coatings such as paints, enamels, or metallic layers (like galvanizing) that act as a physical barrier between the metal and the corrosive environment. Passivation is another surface treatment where a protective oxide layer is intentionally formed on the metal surface, enhancing its natural resistance to corrosion. Choosing the appropriate corrosion inhibition strategy is vital for extending the lifespan and maintaining the integrity of metallic structures and components across various industries.
