Korras

Korras is a fictional archipelago and city-state created for worldbuilding and speculative fiction. It comprises six inhabited islands and several smaller islets, located in the western sea near the imagined continent of Eldara. The name derives from an old seafaring term meaning watcher of horizons.

Geography and environment: The archipelago features varied landscapes, from craggy coasts and pine-clad highlands to mangrove swamps along sheltered bays. The climate is temperate, with mild summers and wet winters; the surrounding sea is productive, supporting fisheries, coastal trade, and aquaculture.

History: Settlement in the area is described in legends dating to the early Bronze Age, with ongoing coastal trade. Korras rose as a maritime hub during the medieval period, achieved de facto independence in the 17th century, and later joined a regional federation.

Politics and economy: Korras is governed by a council elected from the island towns, supervised by a mayor who acts as chief executive. The economy centers on fishing, seafood processing, shipbuilding, port services, and increasingly tourism and light manufacturing.

Demographics and culture: The population is diverse, with speakers of the Korran language alongside minority communities. Cultural life centers on markets, maritime festivals, and crafts such as wood carving and sailcloth weaving. Local cuisine emphasizes fresh fish, citrus, and seaweed-based dishes.

Infrastructure and notable features: The capital city hosts a historic harbour, a regional university, and a hospital. Notable sites include the Old Harbor, Fort Isla, and the Cliff Gate. A modest ferry network and a small international airport connect Korras with neighboring lands.
